Quarter Final – Coláiste Feirste 2pm

🟦⬜ @StMarysGSM 2-20 (26)
🟥⬛🟨 @Abbey_CBS 3-12 (21)
(Extra Time, Full Time)

It is St Mary’s Magherafelt who edge out Abbey CBS to set up a Semi Final clash with St Macartans

St Mary’s Magherafelt came from five points down after 52 minutes of this Danske Bank Rannafast Cup quarter-final yesterday at Coláiste Feirste to force extra time. They then finished strongly with the final five points of extra time to clinch a semi-final spot against St.Macartan’s Monaghan in the next round.
But that doesn’t tell the whole story of a dramatic and entertaining tie.
The Convent took an early lead with a goal from Patrick Birt and that score separated the teams until close on half-time when Adam Gibbs-McCann fired in two goals to send the Abbey in with a lead of 2-5 to 1-5.
That three points’ lead was maintained through the third quarter. Then Abbey to turn over possession and Aaron Magennis grabbed a third goal and Paul McGovern quickly added a point to make it 3-9 to 1-10.
The Convent response was quick, a goal from James Sargent two minutes later and they tagged on three points in a row to take the lead just into injury time. However Paul McGovern sent the game into extra time with a late Abbey point, 3-20 to 2-13.
The teams traded scores during the first half of extra time before scores from Birt and Rory Small pushed the Convent ahead at the change of ends, 2-17 to 3-12. The south Derry school then added on the only three scores of the second half through Eamon Young, Dara McGuckin and James Sargent.
St Mary’s: P Birt (1-7, 0-4 frees), J Sargent (1-3), E Young (0-5, 2 frees), F Logan (0-2), R Birt (0-1), R Small (0-1), D McGuckin (0-1)
Abbey: A Gibbs-McCann (2-0), A Magennis (1-3), P McGovern (0-5, 2 frees), C McGeogh (0-3), C McGrath (0-1)

St Paul’s progress to the semi finals of the @DanskeBank_UK U16.5 Rannafast Cup after defeating St Patrick’s Maghera in a 3 point win.

Comhghairdeas🎉

St Paul’s Bessbrook 1-10
St Patrick’s Maghera 1-07
St.Macartan’s Monaghan 2-11
St Patrick’s Armagh 0-08
St Paul’s Bessbrook finished strongly to pull off an unlikely victory over St Patrick’s Maghera in their Danske Bank U16.5 Rannafast Cup quarter-final.
Maghera scored a goal and two points in the first three minutes of the game, Dara O’Kane with 1-1 and Cathal McLaigue with a second point. The Derry side totally dominated the first half, albeit with wind advantage, but found Tom Beattie in outstanding form in the Bessbrook goals. Beattie pulled off three fantastic one-on-one saves during that period and Maghera had a fourth goal chance but pulled it wide. Then just before half time, Feargal Boylan gave St Paul’s a lifeline with a goal to leave it just 1-4 to 1-2 at the break in Maghera’s favour.
Now playing with the wind, Bessbrook still found it difficult to break down Maghera and only Boylan and Eoin Kane had scored by the 50th minute when they managed to draw level at 1-7 each. The Derry side then created another goal chance but Conor Dunne got in a last ditch tackle to smother the shot and at the other end captain Adam Reavey and substitutes Oisin Cunningham and Darragh O’Hagan hit points to set up a semi-final against either neighbours St Colman’s Newry or St Patrick’s Cavan.
In another quarter-final St Patrick’s Armagh and St Macartan’s Monaghan drew 0-8 each. The game then went to extra time when the Sem drove on with goals for Andrew Stewart and John McCrystal.
St Macartan’s will play the winners from Abbey CBS v St Mary’s Magherafelt in next week’s semi-final.
Bessbrook : F Boylan 1-2, E Kane 0-5, A Reavey, O Cunningham and D O’Hagan 0-1 each.
Maghera: D O’Kane 1-1, D McGonigle 0-2, C Johnstone, C McKaigue, R Biggs and P Haran 0-1 each.
Monaghan: J McCrystal and A Stewart 1-0 each, L McKenna and D Foy 0-2 each, K Kearns 0-2, T Mulhall, J McConnon, A McCarey, S Corrigan and M McCaughey 0-1 each
Armagh: T Muldoon 0-5, D Cullen 0-2, J Robinson 0-1.

🟦🟨 St Patrick’s Cavan 1-16
After an epic battle this morning in Middletown GAA, it was St Patrick’s Cavan who emerged victorious by the minimum against their Dungannon counterparts in the Danske Bank U16.5 Rannafast Cup. Leading by one at half-time, the Cavan school found themselves five down shortly into the second half as Dungannon started strongly. But as the game entered the closing stages it was nip and tuck, with the Cavan men sneaking the win at the very end.
