Omagh CBS 0-10 St Mary’s Magherafelt 0-8

Stoppage time points from Eoin Montgomery and Seanie O’Donnell edged Omagh to a second win of the campaign against a brave Magherafelt challenge at MUSA yesterday evening.
Aidan McCluskey’s landed a huge free from the ground to level matters but Conor McGillion set up both winning points for Kieran Donnelly’s side.
The game never sparked into life with neither side looking like cutting loose and often guilty of squandering both possession and chances.
A Montgomery free put Omagh 0-7 to 0-4 ahead after 45 minutes but with Dan Higgins and Eunan Quinn in fine form at midfield, St Mary’s fought back.
It was Omagh’s bench that helped then engineer openings in the closing stages with Finn Grimes and O’Donnell (2) all finding the target.
The sides were level going into the break before Adam Traynor edged Omagh ahead, 0-4 to 0-3 for the change of ends.
Omagh struggled to deal with Dan Higgins’ fielding but three points in as many minutes put them in a commanding lead.
St Mary’s didn’t throw in the towel. Far from it. Eunan Quinn kicked two superb scores and with Johnny McErlain and Ronan McKenna beginning to take a grip, there was a feeling that the game was starting to swing in their favour.
Magherafelt will feel they deserved at least a point and go into their final group game with St Ronan’s searching for a first win.
