Danske Bank Treanor Cup final
St Eunan’s, Letterkenny 4-10 Patrician High Carrickmacross 2-6
Conor O’Donnell was the scoring hero for St Eunan’s Letterkenny in yesterday’s Danske Bank Treanor Cup final, his 3-3 enough to negate Carrickmacross’ bid for a third Ulster Colleges’ football title this season.
A good start helped St Eunan’s and left their opponents chasing the game. O’Donnell’s penalty goal in the tenth minute put his side 1-3 to 0-1 up.
But Patrician were not too far out of the picture and Andrew Moore finished a break for the Monaghan side in the 19th minute with a fine shot to the roof of the net.
Donnachadha Swinbourne hit the base of the Letterkenny post soon after, but this time St Eunan’s capitalised and Daragh Ellison placed O’Donnell for his second goal.
Again Carrickmacross broke for a fine team goal from wing-back Ronan McKeown, only for Pauric McGettigan to punch home a third Letterkenny goal and turn the teams around on a 3-6 to 2-2 scoreline.
With 12 minutes to go, Patrician had narrowed the gap to 3-9 to 3-5, Swinbourne the goal-grabber, and they were denied two more goals by ‘keeper Eoghan Jordan within a 90 seconds’ spell, both from the dangerous Cian Shekleston.
The game was only really put to bed in the 58th minute when Dylan Doogan was fouled inside the area and Conor O’Donnell again slotted home the penalty.
