Danske Bank MacRory Cup

Omagh CBS 0-14 Abbey CBS 1-8

OMAGH CBS picked up their first win of this Danske Bank MacRory Cup campaign in Armagh yesterday with victory over Abbey CBS in a game that changed from being a canter for them into a battle for the points.

Omagh hit the first seven scores of the game, all points from a variety of distances and angles. Among those were two each for John Harkin and Aidan Fullerton.

Eventually Abbey woke from their slumber and pegged them back to a three points’ margin by the break.

Shay Murdock opened their scoring in the 20th minute, and their challenge really came alive six minutes later when Blian McGrath finished a good team move with a flick to the Omagh net.

Ronan Reel hit the opening point of the second half from a free to narrow the gap to two points, but trying as hard as they did, they simply couldn’t close the gap any further with Harkin, Fullerton and Oisin Donnelly opening the gap to five once again.

Reel hit four of the five second half points for the Abbey, who created a couple of openings for goals but couldn’t finish them and as a result remain at the foot of Section B without a league point to their credit.

Omagh are out on Saturday (11am in Augher) against St Ronan’s, while Abbey will be playing an improving St Patrick’s Cavan side on Tuesday (Corduff, 2.15pm).

Omagh CBS : Johnny Harkin 0-4, 0-3 frees, James Darcy 0-3, 0-1 free, Aidan Fullerton 0-2, Ryan Gray 0-2, Oisin Donnelly 0-2, Tiarnan Murray 0-1.

Abbey CBS : Blian McGrath 1-0, Ronan Reel 0-5, 0-3 frees, Shay Murdock 0-1, Charlie Magill 0-1, Ronan Fegan 0-1.
