Danske Bank Rafferty Cup semi-final

Holy Trinity Cookstown 3-7 St Malachy’s Belfast 1-8

A GOAL from Aaron Moore seven minutes into the second half yesterday helped Holy Trinity Cookstown set up an all-Tyrone Danske Bank Treanor Cup final this weekend.

Prior to that score the game was nip and tuck with St Malachy’s holding a single point advantage at 1-4 to 1-3.

Moore, who had been switched to the inside line early in the game, won a ball around 30 metres, took on and beat his marker before shooting past Conor McCullough into the net.

St Malachy’s never recovered from that blow with Shane Murphy adding a Cookstown point soon after and then Eugene óg Teague blasting a third goal for the Tyrone side in the 47th minute to closed out any comeback from the Belfast side.

The opening 25 minutes were a catalogue of missed opportunities for both sides, although St Malachy’s did get a decent start with a goal from their player of the match Bobby Burns in the 11th minute.

The next score was a goal from Aaron Moore 14 minutes later when Pauric Lagan played a through ball in from midfield. Moore took possession, forced his path past a defender and blasted to the roof of the net from 20 metres.

That sparked a run of two points each in the remaining five minutes of play to leave it all square at the turnover, 1-3 each.

Although Bobby Burns scored his third point on the re-start to put St Malachy’s ahead, the game turned against them and Teague, Murphy and Moore sealed the win for Holy Trinity who now meet St Ciaran’s Ballygawley in the first ever all-Tyrone final at this level.
