Draws for Year 11 Football competitions

October 14, 2015

Following games this week the quarter-final pairings for the Danske Bank Edmund Rice Rannafast Cup were announced last night by Ulster Colleges’ Council.

The new St Ronan’s College Lurgan have qualified for the semi-finals of the Cup where they will be up against St Patrick’s Cavan.

There is another south Derry derby between last season’s beaten finalists and St Patrick’s Maghera, while the holders St Macartan’s face St Patrick’s Academy in their last eight play-off.

The final game sees Patrician high Carrickmacross play St Colman’s Newry, who managed to edge out neighbours Abbey CBS after the pair finished on equal points from the league section.

As there was a record entry of 16 teams for the competition this season, the teams eliminated from the Cup will now contest quarter-finals in the Shield. Both Cup and Shield games are to be played next week.

Meanwhile St Malachy’s Castlewellan have made a huge impact on the Danske Bank Rafferty Cup and yesterday defeated St Patrick’s Keady to reach the semi-finals in this their first year in Ulster Colleges’ competitions.

They now await the winners of St Paul’s Bessbrook v St Ciaran’s Ballygawley, two other schools that have made a successful transition in recent years.

In the Danske Bank Paddy O’Hara Cup the semi-final line-up is already complete with St Mark’s Warrenpoint facing Lismore Comprehensive and Aquinas Grammar taking on Holy Cross Strabane.

Finally in the Danske Bank Faul Cup, Lumen Christi have beaten St Patrick’s Belfast to reach the semi-finals. Tomorrow (FRIDAY) St Killian’s Garron Tower will play St Benedict’s Randalstown.

In the other semi-finals, De La Salle Downpatrick will play St Joseph’s Derry, while there is a Belfast derby between Edmund Rice and Coláiste Feirste.
