Jim McKeever

April 06, 2023

Jim McKeever’s place in Ulster GAA as a player is legendary. However, his greatest contribution was as an educator in St Joseph’s College of Education, latterly St Mary’s University College Belfast, or simply “The Ranch” There he passed on his coaching skills collected over many years to generations of students in Belfast adding to them, his own emphasis on the qualities of sportsmanship.
They, in their turn, have gone out and carried them into the Primary Schools and Second level schools of Ulster , as teachers, coaches and administrators over the past sixty years.
However, Jim’s legacy is not to be measured in the acquisition of silverware, but in the promotion of a love of the skills of Gaelic games, an emphasis on fair play and a knowledge that the same message is still being transmitted today to countless numbers of students.
