Half time subs keep Convent winning in MacRory

October 24, 2017

St Mary’s Magherafelt 2-13 St Mary’s Belfast 0-9

For the first half hour this Danske Bank MacRory Cup tie was more than interesting with Eoin McMenamin dominating the midfield for St Mary’s CBGS and providing his forwards with enough possession to trouble the Convent’s defence.

Paddy Doyle landed three superb points and Dominic McEnhill added two frees so that there was just a point between the sides at the break, 0-6 to 1-4.

The one negative in the first half from a CBS point of view was a 21st minute goal for Adamy Connolly, the Kildress forward getting time to pick his spot.

Then everything changed at the break. On came Ciaran Shields and Euan McBride for the Convent and McMenamin’s dominance in the middle was over.

After Tiarnan McAteer and Daniel Bradley added points for Magherafelt, Shields stole in for a goal and the game was put to bed.

The Convent added a series of points, the pick of them one from Ryan Kearns, while the west Belfast side didn’t add to their interval total until five minutes from time when Dominic McEnhill hit a trio of points, two from frees.

St Mary’s Magherafelt : Adam Connolly 1-1, Ciaran Shields 1-0, Daniel Bradley 0-5, 0-3 frees, Tiarnan McAteer 0-3, Ryan Kearns 0-2, Dominic McAteer 0-1, Ruairi Keenan 0-1

St Mary’s CBGS Belfast : Dominic McEnhill 0-5, 0-4 frees, Paddy Doyle 0-3, Matthew Mullan 0-1.
